Mark Richt’s son becomes Georgia HS head coach

Jon Richt is the new head coach of Prince Avenue Christian. Richt, who is the son of former Georgia Bulldogs head coach Mark Richt, served as Prince Avenue’s offensive coordinator for the past three years. He helped Prince Avenue win state titles in 2022 and 2023.

Richt steps in for Greg Vandagriff, who served as Prince Avenue’s head coach for nine seasons. Vandagriff is the father of former Georgia quarterback Brock Vandagriff. Vandagriff resigned from Prince Avenue and finishes with a career record of 107-15 and a trio of state titles at the 1-3A GHSA Private school football level. It is unknown why Vandagriff resigned.

Richt played college football for Clemson and also played in high school for Prince Avenue. Richt will be able to consult his father on the challenges a head coach faces.

“I’m excited to take over a program like this, but for me it means a lot more considering I played here,” Richt said after being named the Prince Avenue head coach.
