ESPN analyst confident Colorado can continue success in 2025

In a recent episode of his podcast “Always College Football,” ESPN analyst Greg McElory shared some encouraging thoughts on Colorado football’s upcoming 2025 season. It’s obviously still early, but McElory believes the Buffs can at least come close to replicating their success from last year’s nine-win campaign.

McElroy began his analysis by sharing that although Colorado is losing quarterback Shedeur Sanders and Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter to the NFL, head coach Deion Sanders landed an impressive group of transfers and high school signees. Two of Colorado’s most notable additions include quarterbacks Julian Lewis and Kaidon Salter, and McElroy predicted Salter, a veteran transfer from Liberty, would win the Buffs’ starting job.

Here’s some of what McElory said on Colorado’s evolving roster:

“They return just 50% of their production — that’s 89th in college football,” McElroy said. “Just 44% returns on offense — that is 99th — so a lot of pieces to replace on the offensive side, but that should come as no surprise given the personnel and the quality we got from Shedeur and Travis by themselves. The recruiting haul wasn’t bad. They landed 17 players in the transfer portal. They added 14 high school players. Eight of those 14 were four-star or better.”

Later, McElory said Colorado should have no problem qualifying for another bowl game and beyond:

“Their win total is at 6.5, and to be honest with you, I’m leaning towards the over with where this program is heading, even though there are some big names that are gone,” McElrory said.
