Provine football is bringing back a familiar face.
The Rams hired Marcellus Speaks as their head coach the school announced Wednesday.
Speaks returns to the Provine after serving as the Rams’ coach in 2017. He went 6-5 during his one season. Speaks replaces Tim Wilson, who was the Rams coach from 2018-2024. Wilson had a record of 27-40 and a 0-2 playoff record.
“We are thrilled to welcome coach Speaks back to Provine,” Roderick Smith, Provine’s principal, said in a press release. “His dedication to excellence, combined with his personal connection to the school, will be a tremendous asset to our scholar-athletes.”
Speaks’s most recent coaching stint was as defensive backs coach at Itawamba College in 2019. Before being Provine’s head coach in 2017, he served as the Rams’ defensive coordinator from 2014-2016 and was a defensive coordinator at Callaway in 2013.
Speaks is a former Provine graduate and played college football at Delta State and Jackson State, where he helped lead JSU to a SWAC Championship and was named defensive player of the year in 2008.
Provine ended the 2024 season 1-10, with its lone win coming against Jim Hill, 28-24.
