The new era of college football never sleeps with the transfer portal and players moving from program to program. Due to that, it is always the right time to take a look at the Iowa Hawkeyes and what could be in store for next season.
With 2025 spring ball approaching and players returning to on-field action, there are questions and storylines to follow for the Hawkeyes. New faces will take the field for the first time, veterans will be asked to do more than they have before, and young players will get their chance to shine.
As spring ball nears, ESPN took a dive into the Big Ten to preview the conference before spring practices start and provided a storyline, player to watch, and position of intrigue for the Iowa Hawkeyes in 2025.

Mark Gronowski is going to be under the spotlight for the Iowa Hawkeyes all spring and summer into training camp. The experience and success he brings to the quarterback position exceeds what Iowa has had under center in years.
Gronowski is going to be given the keys to Tim Lester’s offense and has every opportunity to elevate not only Iowa but himself to the next level as a player in the Big Ten and himself as an NFL-caliber talent.
Spring storyline: Iowa is betting on South Dakota State transfer QB Mark Gronowski, a two-time national champ at the FCS level, to significantly upgrade the No. 130 passing offense in FBS. He’ll miss spring practice due to offseason shoulder surgery, but this should be a highly competitive spring for the Hawkeyes as they work to replace a dozen starters from last year’s 8-5 squad. – ESPN
