Similar to the NFL-bound Shedeur Sanders, new Colorado football quarterback Julian “JuJu” Lewis appears mature beyond his years.
Lewis played only three seasons at the high school level in Georgia before enrolling early at CU this spring, and the former five-star prospect is now competing for the Buffs’ starting quarterback job. With spring football now underway in Boulder, Lewis met with the media on Tuesday and responded thoughtfully when asked about his goals for the spring.
“Honestly, just to grow and get stronger and learn the offense,” Lewis said. “Of course, everybody thinks it’s a quarterback battle and stuff like that, but we got such great quarterbacks in the room and great personalities. I love being around the guys every day and happy to be here.”
Later, Lewis was asked if he was nervous about proving himself at the college level.
“Not particularly,” Lewis said. “I got more to prove to myself than anybody else. I’ve been called overrated since I was seven. It is what it is on that part of football.”
