Texas Tech football has 31 players with new numbers this spring. See them all here.

With the Texas Tech football team opening spring practice this week, updated roster sheets are as helpful as ever, more so than in some other years.

The Red Raiders have 27 players practicing with the team for the first time, including 18 who transferred in from other NCAA programs. Another nine are freshmen who enrolled in January. If that isn’t enough new names and jersey numbers to keep straight, four returning players have switched numbers.

Most notable in the latter group is wide receiver Coy Eakin, who’ll join linebacker Bryce Ramirez in wearing No. 3. In Joey McGuire’s program, that jersey number serves a dual purpose. One, to represent the fighting spirit of the late Luke Siegel, who wore it in youth sports. Secondly, as a hat tip to players deemed to best represent what McGuire calls “the brand,” the tough, hard-working, competitive identity he wants for the Red Raiders.
