No buyer’s remorse for LSU football’s transfer portal class. Brian Kelly’s early thoughts

BATON ROUGE — When the transfer portal window closed back in January, LSU football has hauled in college football’s top crop of transfers, per national recruiting outlets.

Seeing the accomplishment on paper, or online, is one thing. Brian Kelly and his staff evaluated the players and what they could bring to the Tigers, but you never truly know until you get them with the team and on the field.

Spring practice at LSU is only three days old but, so far, there doesn’t seem to be any buyer’s remorse for Kelly, his staff and the program.

“To be honest, there isn’t a player right now that has disappointed. Each one of them has shown us something that says they can contribute and help our football team in some manner — some more than others,” Kelly told reporters Tuesday morning.

LSU added 16 transfers out of the portal following last season and all but one have already enrolled and are making their way through their first spring with the Tigers. Northwestern senior offensive line transfer Josh Thompson should join the team next week, Kelly said, as the school operates on the quarter system and Thompson will wrap up academics this week.

Wide receivers Nic Anderson and Barion Brown from Oklahoma and Kentucky respectively, cornerback Mansoor Delane and offensive linemen Braelin Moore both from Virginia Tech as well as safety Tamarcus Cooley and defensive ends Jack Pyburn and Patrick Payton are all expected to contribute in significant ways for LSU this season.
