Illinois football loses four-star commit Victor Singleton to Texas A&M

Illinois football’s top-rated recruit in the Class of 2026 has flipped his commitment.

Four-star defensive back Victor Singleton announced Saturday he will attend Texas A&M, according to a social media post. The 6-foot, 160-pound high schooler from Toledo (Ohio) Central Catholic had committed to Illinois in February.

Singleton was the highest-ranked prep recruit of the Bret Bielema era, ranked the No. 57 overall prospect in the Class of 2026, according to 247Sports, and No. 5 at cornerback. He had chosen Illinois over A&M, Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State, Oregon, Ole Miss, Tennessee and a dozen-plus others.

Earlier this year, Singleton said his pursuit by Illinois defensive backs coach Corey Parker was a primary driver of his commitment. Parker came to Illinois two years ago from Toledo, the first school to offer Singleton.

“Landing big fish means you have to keep that big fish on the line and get him into the boat before other big fish can snag them away,” wrote Jeremy Werner of Illini Inquirer. “Texas A&M is an SEC program with deep financial resources, and they just snagged away the Illini’s highest-ceiling prospect so far in the Class of 2026.”
