Alabama coach Kalen DeBoer has had the opportunity to lead two of the best quarterbacks in college football across his last two seasons.
DeBoer, who led Washington to the national championship game last season, had Michael Penix Jr. under center, who was the Heisman Trophy runner-up and No. 8 overall pick to the Atlanta Falcons in the 2024 NFL Draft. This season, as the coach for the Crimson Tide, he’ll have Jalen Milroe leading his offense, as Milroe figures to be one of the top options in the country.

Appearing on “Next Up with Adam Breneman” on Thursday, DeBoer compared Milroe and Penix Jr ahead of his first season in Tuscaloosa.
“Every guy’s their own guy, right,” DeBoer said inside Alabama facilities. “And what I do know is that both of them are extremely great people. And they want to achieve success at the highest level. Individually, but when you look at, you get to know them, they want what’s best for their teammates and this football team, whether it’s Jalen here, or Michael there. It truly isn’t just something they’re saying publicly, they’re living it and pouring into that each and every day.
“They’re the ones that are holding themselves accountable and then passing that on to the rest of their team. Super talented obviously in their own way, been just cool seeing Jalen bit by bit, he’s watching clips still from last year, we’ve installed things offensively in particular. He’s just really embraced that and been excited about it and take on just like Michael did, everything we throw at them because they want to grow and be their best.
