The football world was met with news of the death of Khyree Jackson early Saturday morning.
Jackson, along with former Charlotte football player Isaiah Hazel and former Florida State and Penn State cornerback Anthony Lytton Jr., was killed in an early morning car accident in Upper Marlboro, Maryland, per Maryland State Police. Jackson was 24.
Jackson was a defensive back at Alabama before transferring to Oregon, where he played his final college season in 2023. The Minnesota Vikings selected him as a fourth-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, and he had begun preparations for his rookie season in the league. The trio of Jackson, Hazel and Lytton played together at Dr. Henry A. Wise Jr. High School in Upper Marlboro, about 10 miles outside Washington, D.C.
The preliminary investigation by the Maryland State Police found that another car attempted to change lanes “driving at a high rate of speed” and struck the three football players’ car. The report addedthat investigators believe alcohol may be a “contributing circumstance.”
Here’s a look at social media reactions around college football and the NFL, including Jackson’s former teammates at Alabama and Oregon.
