Clemson fans can play as Tiger legends in EA Sports College Football 25, per report

Want to play as Trevor Lawrence or Deshaun Watson in a Clemson uniform? What about Travis Etienne, Tee Higgins, Christian Wilkins or Dexter Lawrence? You’ll soon be able to.

Clemson fans who missed out on the chance of playing with elite players in Dabo Swinney’s program during the team’s run of six straight College Football Playoff appearances from 2015-20 will soon be able to play with those players and other current NFL stars in EA Sports College Football 25, USA TODAY reported Tuesday.

According to USA TODAY Sports’ Jordan Mendoza, EA has worked with the NFL Players Association to bring current NFL stars back to their college teams in the video game’s ‘Ultimate Team’ mode. Ultimate Team functions as an in-game purchasing model.

In other words, if you want to play as Lawrence, Etienne or other post-2013 college football stars (Joe Burrow, Lamar Jackson, Derrick Henry, etc.), you’ll have to pay for it in addition to the game’s $69.99 Standard Edition price tag.

The news is the latest surrounding the much-hyped and long-awaited release of the first college football video game available to consumers since NCAA Football 14 was released in the summer of 2013.

That game was released before Clemson established itself as one of the top programs in the nation on an annual basis. The Tigers played in four College Football Playoff National Championship Games (2015-16, 2018-19), winning two — both against Nick Saban’s Alabama teams.

USA TODAY reports that College Football 25 will feature both “players of today and retired legends of the past” along with current the NFL players.

The game’s full release is July 19.
