Southeastern Conference commissioner Greg Sankey took a dig at the Florida State Seminoles in support of Georgia Bulldogs. Sankey made his opinion on the 2023 College Football Playoff known in a recent interview with 1010 XL radio out of Jacksonville, Florida.
“Georgia was one of the best four teams (in the country) and didn’t get in (to the playoff), but you didn’t see us jumping up and down and complaining and hanging national championship banners,” said Sankey.
Sankey is perhaps referring to Florida State’s ACC championship rings that claim the Seminoles were unconquered and 13-0. However, Florida State lost 63-3 to Georgia in the Orange Bowl, which dropped the Seminoles to 13-1.
Fortunately, the 2024 playoff will have 12 teams, so there won’t be any more controversies (yeah, right). Well, at least there won’t be any more undefeated Power Four conference champions missing the playoffs.
The SEC is projected to have several teams make the expanded version of the playoffs. Georgia is a popular preseason No. 1, while Florida State rebuilt much of its roster via the transfer portal.
