East Ridge athlete Luke Ryerse flips commitment from Alabama to Gophers

Luke Ryerse, a two-sport athlete at East Ridge High School, changed his commitment from Alabama to the Gophers on Saturday night.

Ryerse plans to punt on for the Minnesota football team and pitch on the U baseball team starting in 2025.

“I would like to thank Coach (Nick) Saban and Coach (Rob) Vaughn and their staffs for offering me the opportunity to play two sports at Alabama,” Ryerse wrote on X. “Due to the recent changes on the football staff, I have de-committed.

“I am excited to share that I have flipped my commitment and will represent my home state at the University of Minnesota for football and baseball. Huge thinks to Coach (P.J.) Fleck and Coach (Ty) McDevitt and their staffs for the opportunity to punt and pitch for the Gophers, while pursuing a business degree!”

Ryerse’s older brother Grant was a kickoff specialist at the U during the 2019 season. He was on the roster from 2017-20.

Ryerse, who is listed at 6-foot-1 and 210 pounds, is the second specialist to commit to the Gophers for the 2025 class. Alexandria kicker Daniel Jackson committed to the U in May.
