One of the coolest awards in college football is the Allstate Wuerffel Trophy which honors college football players who are making impacts in their community. There are several awards now dedicated to off-the-field impact, but the Wuerffel Trophy was the first major award honoring the character of service to others.
The trophy is named after Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Danny Wuerffel who is responsible for helping guide the Florida Gators to their first-ever national championship in 1996.
The award was first handed out in 2005 to LSU Tigers offensive lineman Rudy Niswanger, with Sam Acho being the lone Texas Longhorn to win the award back in 2010.
Heading into the 2024 season, Longhorns LG Hayden Conner has been named to the pre-season Allstate Wuerffel Trophy Watch List. Conner has been outstanding on the field for the Longhorns as he started all 14 games and was a semi-finalist for the Joe Moore award in 2023, but his time spent helping in the Austin community makes Conner so special.
