After an impressive showing on the road in Week 1, Penn State was unable to move up in the new AP Top 25 poll this week. But the Nittany Lions do maintain their footing amid some changes within the top 10.
Penn State checks in at no. 8, the same as its ranking from the preseason poll, according to the latest voting among AP Top 25 voters this week. Penn State’s 34-12 victory over West Virginia helped close the gap with the team ranked ahead of them in this week’s AP poll, although there is a new team sitting just ahead of them.
Oregon fell from no. 3 down to no. 7 after a shaky debut in the Big Ten era of Ducks football. Oregon struggled to get past FCS Idaho at home in Week 1, although the new Big Ten powerhouse did close things out to avoid a massive upset in Week 1. As Oregon stumbled a few spots, no. 3 Texas, no. 4 Alabama, and no. 5 Notre Dame all moved up in the poll. Ole Miss, still sitting at no. 6 from the preseason rankings, also sits in front of Oregon, followed by Penn State.
The Big Ten has six members ranked in this week’s AP Top 25; no. 2 Ohio State, no. 7 Oregon, no. 8 Penn State, no. 10 Michigan, no. 13 USC, and no. 21 Iowa. Nebraska, Washington, and Wisconsin were among those also receiving votes but sitting outside the top 25.
Penn State moved up one spot in this week’s US LBM Coaches Poll, moving from no. 9 to no. 8. The latest coaches poll voting has Penn State fewer than 100 points behind no. 7 Notre Dame following the results of Week 1.

Penn State will host Bowling Green for a home opener in Beaver Stadium in Week 2. Kickoff is set for noon Eastern and the game will air on Big Ten Network.
