1970s Sycamore football standouts planning reunion in October

Vincent Allen and Chris Hicks, former standout football players at Indiana State, are planning a reunion of ISU’s teams from the 1970s.

The upcoming event is aimed at bringing together players, coaches, managers, and athletic trainers for a celebration to honor the achievements and teamwork of those Sycamore teams from more than four decades ago.

With a “Togetherness and Bond” theme, the ISU 1970s Football Teams Reunion is scheduled for Oct. 25-26 at various venues in Terre Haute.

“This reunion promises to be a momentous occasion, rekindling the camaraderie and memories that have defined Indiana State University’s football legacy which most believe started in the 1970s,” Hicks and Allen stated in a news release. “ISU Football Teams from that era will come together to reminisce, share stories, and revel in the shared passion that unites them with a resounding fellowship emulating their togetherness and bond that existed in the past.”

Hicks and Allen are both members of the ISU Athletics Hall of Fame. Hicks was a three-year starter at offensive tackle for ISU from 1972-75 and was inducted into the ISU Hall in 2008. Allen rushed for more than 1,000 yards in all four of his Sycamore seasons (1973-77) and was inducted into the ISU Hall in 1998. Allen is currently a 2025 nominee for the College Football Hall of Fame.

The Oct. 25-26 ISU football reunion weekend will kick off with a welcome meet-and-greet reception. A highlight of the reunion will be a special tribute to the ISU 1970s football teams. Reunion attendees can expect a trip down memory lane, according to the release, with highlights, anecdotes, and a plethora of examples that chronicles the history of that period.
