Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa leaves game vs. Bills with concussion

Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa was removed from the third quarter of his team’s game against the Buffalo Bills after suffering an apparent head injury. He was later diagnosed with a concussion and ruled out for the rest of the game.

Tagovailoa scrambled for a first down on a fourth-down attempt near Buffalo’s end zone with the Dolphins trailing 31-10. He dove past the first-down marker, where his head collided with the lower body of Bills safety Damar Hamlin. Tagovailoa remained dazed on the field after the play, prompting Dolphins trainers to attend to him.

He eventually got up and limped off the field and departed for the team’s locker room. Backup quarterback Skylar Thompson entered the game for the Dolphins.

Tagovailoa has a lengthy injury history that includes multiple concussions during the 2022 NFL season, most notably one in a Week 4 game at the Cincinnati Bengals where his arms displayed a fencing response on the field.

Still, he signed a four-year contract extension worth up to $212 million with the Dolphins this past offseason after playing a big role in back-to-back playoff berths for the team.
