Missouri State football escapes with win vs Youngstown State behind Jacob Clark heroics

Missouri State football is a winner of its last three games and will head into its bye week with a winning record near the midway point of the 2024 college football season.

The Bears (3-2, 1-0) were victorious in a 38-31 win over Youngstown State (2-3, 0-1) at Plaster Stadium on Saturday afternoon. It’s the program’s first three-game winning streak under second-year head coach Ryan Beard and the first since 2021, the team’s second-to-last season under Bobby Petrino.

Star quarterback Jacob Clark picked up a third-down read-option with a 38-yard run with under 30 seconds remaining. With eight seconds left, Clark found a wide-open Lance Mason for a five-yard game-winning touchdown.

A road trip to Illinois State awaits the Bears on Oct. 12. Their next home game is Oct. 19 when they host Indiana State.

After giving up a 14-point fourth-quarter lead, Missouri State found itself with the ball, tied, with 1:02 left after forcing the Penguins to punt deep in their own territory.

Facing third-and-4 with under 30 seconds left, Clark pulled the ball on a read-option and scampered for a 38-yard to put the Bears inside the Youngstown State 10.

With eight seconds left, Clark found a wide-open Mason for a five-yard game-winning touchdown.
