Here’s a look at the top eight high school football teams in Cleveland, Gaston and Lincoln counties following Week 10, as ranked by the USA Today Network.
1. South Point (6-1, 4-1 Big South 3A)
Last week: defeated Forestview, 47-0.
The scoop: The Red Raiders’ path to a potential No. 1 seed in the NCHSAA 3A West playoffs cleared last Friday night, thanks in part to Kings Mountain’s win over Ashbrook. Nevertheless, coach Adam Hodge’s group handled its business Friday night, tallying more than 450 yards of total offense and nabbing three interceptions in a shutout of Forestview.

2. Crest (7-1, 4-1 Big South 3A)
Last week: defeated Hunter Huss, 35-6.
The scoop: It hasn’t always been pretty in recent weeks for Crest, but one cannot argue its effectiveness during the team’s three-game winning streak in which the Chargers have outscored competition 107-12. Aiden Carson couldn’t be stopped last Friday against Hunter Huss, rushing for 200 yards and two touchdowns in leading the Chargers to victory.

WEEK 11 FOOTBALL SCHEDULE: Here’s what’s on tap for Gastonia, Shelby area high school football in Week 11
3. North Lincoln (8-1, 5-1 Western Foothills 3A)
Last week: defeated West Iredell, 35-14.
The scoop: The Knights upped their winning streak to four games, making short work of West Iredell for a 21-point win. North Lincoln is on the cusp of rushing for 3,000 yards this season, its ball carriers averaging better than 8 yards per carry. A win Friday night over rival East Lincoln would earn the Knights an automatic playoff berth and a home date to start the 3A West playoffs.
