York football falls to top-seed Fryeburg Academy in Class C South semifinal

FRYEBURG, Maine – The York High School football team saw its season come to an end on Friday with a 48-0 loss to top-seeded Fryeburg Academy in a Class C South semifinal.

No. 4 York, which beat fifth-seeded Brunswick, 21-8 in a first-round game, ended its season with a record of 3-6.

“I was really pleased with the effort the kids gave all season,” York head coach Matt Nelson said. “Fryeburg is a big, strong, physical team and they executed really well. I was proud of the way my kids played. Even though the score didn’t reflect, our kids left everything they had on the field which as a football coach really makes you proud.”

Fryeburg will face No. 3 Leavitt in the next week’s Class C South championship. Leavitt advanced with a win over No. 2 Cape Elizabeth.
