After one year with the Texas Tech football team, prized five-star 2024 recruit Micah Hudson is reportedly headed to the transfer portal, according to a report from 247Sports.
Hudson joined the Red Raiders to much pomp and circumstance as the program’s highest-rated recruit in the 247Sports era. While coaches hoped to include the Temple Lake Belton product much more this season, Hudson missed spring ball after recovering from offseason surgery and found himself stuck behind more veteran options at receiver when he returned.
Texas Tech’s Micah Hudson practices for the fall season, Wednesday, July 31, 2024 at the Sports Performance Center.
Hudson missed the final four games of the regular season with what Tech labeled as a lower leg injury. The hope was for him to return in the final two games to assume the role of punt returner, though he was ruled out on gameday the last two weeks.
In his lone season at Texas Tech, Hudson made eight catches for 123 yards, unable to find the end zone. He found himself in a logjam at receiver behind the likes of Caleb Douglas, Coy Eakin and Josh Kelly.
The winter transfer portal window officially begins Dec. 9. Hudson cannot officially enter the portal until then. Texas Tech is expected to bring in five receivers in its 2025 recruiting class and could return Douglas and Eakin, who are second and third on the team in receiving.
