It’s been a long three weeks for Buckeye Nation. What looked like a forgone conclusion turned sour as Ohio State fell to its arch-rival for a fourth year in a row. Not only did that loss prevent the Buckeyes from achieving two of their season-long goals — beating Michigan and winning a Big Ten championship — but it also put the team in a very precarious position as the No. 8 seed in the College Football Playoff. Without a doubt, Ohio State has the most difficult path to win a national championship, and it all starts this weekend against a very good Tennessee Volunteer team.
The question remains: what Buckeye team will we see? The one that dominated Penn State and Indiana or the one that laid an egg against the Wolverines? Will there be a hangover from the loss to Michigan?
Maybe the better question is, what version of Ryan Day will we see? The one who coaches fearlessly or the one who looks tense and plays not to lose? The Buckeyes will need to be at their best, both players on the field and coaches on the sidelines if they hope to get past the first round. They have the talent, but can they get over the hump?
