Davis is Daily Item Player of the Year

Dec. 24—There was a moment late in the fourth quarter of the District 4 Class 3A championship game in November when it looked like Danville’s run of four straight titles, and its undefeated season, would end at the hands … er feet of one player.

Lewisburg’s Jeremiah Davis took a handoff off the right side and raced 77 yards for a touchdown with 3:42 left in the game to give the Green Dragons the lead.

Danville then drove for the game-winning touchdown, but no one can deny the scare Davis and his Green Dragons teammates put into the Ironmen on that night.

Davis helped the Green Dragons to their first district final and league title since 2010, but saved his best performances for the end of the season. He had 337 yards and five scores versus rival Mifflinburg in the regular-season finale, then added 266 yards and three scores against Mount Carmel in the district semifinals, before another 266 yards and three scores against the Ironmen.

Davis ran for at least 100 yards in 11 of 12 games (only District 4 Class 4A champion Shamokin held him to less than 100 yards), and finished the season with 2,174 yards on the ground and 29 touchdowns. The yardage and rushing touchdowns are both single-season school records, breaking the records set by Max Moyers in 2018. Davis also had two punt return touchdowns this season.

“The game just kind of slowed down a bit, and I just felt a bit smoother,” Davis said of his season after tearing his ACL before his sophomore year. “I really missed football (when I was sophomore), and that’s when I’m happiest (on the football field).”

He was 100% for his junior year physically, but maybe not mentally when he returned to the football field.

“He was wearing a brace all last season, and you could tell early in the season, it was bothering him mentally and physically,” Lewisburg coach Eric Wicks said…
