Texas Injury Update: Positive progress for 3 hurt starters ahead of Peach Bowl vs. ASU

The College Football Playoff quarterfinal Peach Bowl between the Texas Longhorns and the Arizona State Sun Devils is just a few days away. As UT’s squad comes back from the holiday break, the Texas coaching staff is evaluating the health of some of the starters hurt before and during the Clemson game.

Anwar Richardson of OrangeBloods.com reports there is positive progress for three key Longhorns players.

Richardson says the Texas coaching staff is optimistic that Texas WR Isaiah Bond will play in the Peach Bowl. But they are making preparations in the game plan if Bond can’t go on game day.

The Rivals scribe also says Jake Majors and Cam Williams are both expected to play against ASU. In his weekly press conference, Texas coach Steve Sarkisian gave more information on Williams’ status saying it was “not as serious as we thought. That was more of a precautionary MRI, so we feel comfortable about that.”

Sarkisian had positive things to say about backup offensive lineman Trevor Goosby “I thought Trevor did a really nice job,” Sarkisian said. “I highlighted him this morning with the team. They had an elite defensive end, first-round draft pick defensive end. I thought he held his own, more than held his own, and for a guy — to think he’s been a backup all year and against A&M, seven plays in, he goes and plays left tackle in that game, plays left tackle against Georgia, and then he thinks, OK, I’m back as a backup, and then in this ballgame, in the second quarter he gets thrown in at right tackle against a pretty good pass rush, a couple pretty good defensive ends from Clemson.”

Goosby had the third-highest passing blocking grade of any UT offensive lineman against Clemson, according to Pro Football Focus. The redshirt freshman also took over for OT Kelvin Banks Jr. against Texas A&M and had the…
