USC fans destroy Lincoln Riley for awful clock management in Las Vegas Bowl

Lincoln Riley, who is squarely on the hot seat entering 2025 at USC football, has a lot on his plate. He has to figure out if Jayden Maiava should be his QB1 for the coming season, or if he needs to get a starter in the transfer portal. Riley has to find a way to recruit better and get more transfer portal pieces who can make a huge impact on his 2025 roster, particularly along the offensive line. Riley can’t go through another season like this one, in which his offense struggled to score 30 points per game, let alone 40. Losing 29-28 and 27-24 is just not the Riley standard.

We are all groaning in agony here at USC because we never got to see Caleb Williams play offense on the same team which had D’Anton Lynn as defensive coordinator. A Caleb Williams-D’Anton Lynn combination would have likely won at least nine games, maybe 10. We never got to see that. USC football would have been saved if Lynn was in town one year ago. Alas, Riley didn’t make the move early enough. This season, there was no Caleb to save the offense, which faltered under Miller Moss and Maiava while the defense — ravaged by injuries — played as well as it realistically could.

Riley has a lot to figure out, but one thing which cannot remain neglected is his atrocious game management at the ends of halves. His handling of the clock and his timeouts at the end of the first half of the Las Vegas Bowl versus Texas A&M was as bad as a coach can possibly get. This is a core, central part of a coach’s job. Riley needs to attend a class or seminar on this. Athletic director Jennifer Cohen needs to insist on re-education of some kind for her hot-seat head coach. This is completely unacceptable and cannot be tolerated. Let’s go through Riley’s failure and underscore the need for change here:
