Former Georgia Bulldogs quarterback Brock Vandagriff has retired from football in a surprising decision. Vandagriff, a junior, has one season of eligibility left. Vandagriff started for the Kentucky Wildcats for much of the 2024 college football season, but Kentucky’s offense struggled to be productive.
The Wildcats averaged an SEC-low 20.6 points per game. Kentucky finished the year with passes 17 intercepted, which was most in the SEC and the Wildcats averaged only 184.6 yards per game (third-lowest in the SEC).
In some ways the writing was on the wall for Vandagriff, who did not start in Kentucky’s final game against Louisville. Instead, the Wildcats rolled with freshman Cutter Boley. Kentucky brought in transfer quarterback Zack Calzada this offseason and seemed to be moving in a different direction.
Vandagriff passed for 1,593 yards, 10 touchdowns and eight interceptions in 2024 with Kentucky. He rushed for 131 yards on 90 carries. Entering 2024, Vandagriff had zero career starts.
Vandagriff, a former five-star recruit, began his Georgia career in 2021. He transferred to Kentucky after the 2023 season when he lost the starting job to Carson Beck.
Vandagriff and Kentucky nearly upset Georgia in a 13-12 loss to the Bulldogs back in Week 3. Now, his college football career appears to be over. The former Prince Avenue Christian School quarterback could have transferred to another school or stayed at Kentucky for his last year of eligibility or even entered the 2025 NFL draft. Instead, he is electing to retire from football.
