When Oregon walked off the field at the Rose Bowl on Jan. 1, it wasn’t just the end of the season for the Ducks.
Many players saw their college careers come to close in the loss to Ohio State, including several starters.
Here’s a look at the what position groups are the biggest question marks for the Ducks as coach Dan Lanning and company begin to prep for next fall, and how the 2025 recruiting class and the transfer portal are helping them rebuild.

Five position groups needing a rebuild for Oregon football
Quarterback
Leaving – The Ducks are losing a Heisman Trophy finalist for the second straight season with the departure of Dillon Gabriel, a veteran of 63 college starts who transferred to Oregon last winter to replace 61-game veteran Bo Nix.
Returning – Oregon doesn’t have the experience of a Gabriel or Nix in its room any longer, though it does have young potential in sophomore Dante Moore, a former starter at UCLA and five-star recruit who preserved his redshirt in 2024 while being groomed to replace Gabriel. Oregon also returns Austin Novosad – who saw mop-up duty in 2024 – as well as redshirt freshman Luke Moga.
From the portal – After bringing in Nix in 2022 and Gabriel in 2024, the Ducks haven’t yet dipped into the portal to sign an experienced QB.
