Colorado football quarterback Shedeur Sanders has been under the spotlight his entire football career, so becoming a top pick in the 2025 NFL Draft will be more of the same.
Sanders is expected to be one of the top quarterbacks selected in April’s NFL Draft, though he is already a polarizing prospect before the pre-draft process begins this winter and spring. The Tennessee Titans will be one of the several QB-needy teams in the top 10.
Sanders has plenty of football under his belt as a four-year college starter with two seasons each at Colorado and Jackson State under coach and father Deion Sanders. Will his experience translate to the next level?
Here’s what you need to know about top NFL Draft prospect Shedeur Sanders:
Shedeur Sanders and Deion Sanders elevate Jackson State
Sanders was a highly-regarded recruit out of Cedar Hill, Texas, rated as a four-star recruit in the 247Sports composite rankings for the Class of 2021. Despite numerous Power 5 offers, Sanders originally committed to Florida Atlantic in the summer of 2020.
But Sanders’ future (and that of college football at-large) changed when his father Deion Sanders became the head coach at FCS Jackson State. A month later, Shedeur Sanders flipped his commitment to JSU and signed with the Tigers.
Shedeur Sanders earned the starting job as a true freshman and led Jackson State to SWAC titles in 2021 and 2022, the latter season with five-star freshman two-way star Travis Hunter playing alongside at receiver and cornerback. JSU games were under a brighter spotlight with the Sanders family leading the way to wins as well as a unique brand of social media exposure and the Amazon Prime Video documentary ‘Coach Prime’ detailing the Tigers’ 2022 season.
