Texas football vs Ohio State: Right tackle Cameron Williams practicing for Longhorns

Texas football looks like it’s getting healthy for its College Football Playoff semifinal game Friday against Ohio State.

Right tackle Cameron Williams worked out with the first-team offensive line during a brief practice open to the media Sunday at Denius Fields, which is good news for an offense that had its issues in a 39-31 overtime win over Arizona State in Wednesday’s CFP quarterfinal.

Williams, a 6-foot-5, 335-pound junior, missed his first start of the season against the Sun Devils after suffering a right knee strain in a first-round CFP game against Clemson Dec. 21. Redshirt freshman Trevor Goosby started in place of Williams, but the Longhorns had issues establishing the ground game after a late-season surge running the ball.

The Longhorns finished with just 53 yards rushing while averaging 1.8 yards per carry and ran four plays or less on nine of its 13 drives in regulation. That lack of possession helped the Cinderella Sun Devils control the tempo of the game and come within one play of a massive upset. Texas also had four false starts in the fourth quarter and gave up three sacks.

Texas right tackle Cameron Williams is helped off the field after an injury during the Longhorns’ win over Clemson in the fiorst rund of the College Football Playoff at Royal-Memorial Stadium in Austin Dec. 21. Williams missed Wednesday’s win over Arizona State in the CFP quarterfinaks but practiced Sunday.

Williams has played his way into a possible first-round NFL pick in this year’s draft, based on various draft projections.
