Notre Dame came out of halftime of the Orange Bowl looking like a different team against Penn State. With a berth in the College Football Playoff title game on the line, the Irish had to make their move. This they did, and we’re tied at 10 after three quarters.
Riley Leonard reentered the game to begin the second half after he looked banged up at the end of the first. He erased all doubt about his ability to continue playing when he fired a 36-yard completion to Aneyas Williams, getting the Irish into the red zone. Williams then ran for 15 yards, and Leonard called his own number on the next two plays, resulting in a game-tying 3-yard touchdown.
The next three possessions resulted in punts, starting with the Irish forcing a three-and-out. The Irish had the ball when the clock ran out on the quarter. They had just crossed into Nittany Lions territory and soon got into field-goal range. We’ll see if they do anything with that.
