Michigan football gets a second WR in the transfer portal

NMSUÕs Keynote Glinton reaches for Mass wide receiver Anthony Simpson during an Aggie football game on Saturday, August 256 2023, at the Aggie Memorial Stadium.

Much of the handwringing by Michigan football fans in the postseason has been the lack of transfer portal movement with the wide receiver position.

The Wolverines brought in former Indiana wideout Donaven McCulley shortly after the transfer portal opened, but have struck out with many of their other targets. However, on Sunday, the maize and blue added to the room.

Though not a household name, Michigan managed to reel in UMass wide receiver Anthony Simpson who will come in as a grad transfer. Simpson only appeared in two games in 2024 but had 57 catches for 792 yards in 2023, showing he could be a leading wideout when tasked and healthy.

ESPN’s Pete Thamel was the first to report.

Michigan had luck the last time that it reeled in a transfer from UMass, with cornerback Josh Wallace being a steady presence in the defensive backfield.

At the moment, Michigan has Simpson, McCulley, Peyton O’Leary, Kendrick Bell, Semaj Morgan, Amorion Walker, I’Marion Stewart, Channing Goodwin and freshmen Andrew Marsh, Jamar Browder, and Jacob Washington in the room. The Wolverines very well could still add with Tru Edwards being one target that Michigan could continue to target.

Simpson originally got his start at Arizona, where he spent 2021-22 before spending the last two years at Massachusetts. He was an unranked safety in high school before going the junior college route, where he was the fifth-rated athlete by 247Sports coming out of JuCo.
