LAKELAND — Looking ahead to the 2025 football season, Lake Wales knew it would have one of the deepest and most talented stable of skill position players at running back and wide receiver, but there was question about who would start at quarterback.
Not anymore.
Quarterback Chad Williams will wrap up his high school career at Lake Wales. Bob Williams, his father and a former football coach in the county, confirmed on Thursday that Chad has been accepted at Lake Wales and has transferred from Lakeland.
Chad, a junior, is officially enrolled at the school as a non-traditional student. He attends classes at Polk Collegiate.

“We’re excited,” Bob Williams said. “They have good coaches, they have good players.”
The decision to transfer was made in December following the season after Chad’s only season at Lakeland. At the time, there were no firm plans on where he would end up playing his senior season.
“It wasn’t the right fit,” Bob said.
Chad, a 6-foot-2 left-hander, was the starting quarterback at Auburndale as a sophomore where he threw for 1,322 yards and nine touchdowns. He led the Bloodhounds to a 7-4 record and a playoff berth.
This past season after transferring to Lakeland, Chad backed up Zander Smith for most of the season and threw for nearly 500 yards and seven touchdowns and did not throw an interception. Chad won the starting job going into the playoffs. He started and played all of the first three playoff games before starting but splitting time with Smith in the state…
