Christ School quarterback Mason Holtzclaw reclassifying, transferring to Carrollton in Georgia

Christ School quarterback Mason Holtzclaw is transferring to Carrollton High School in Georgia and reclassifying to the Class of 2026, he confirmed on social media.

Holtzclaw, who is from Piedmont, South Carolina, has pulled in over a dozen Division I offers, including North Carolina, Virginia Tech, Kentucky and Florida State, among others.

Holtzclaw departs Christ School after coach Chad Walker recently took over the program at Pace University, an NCAA Division II school in Pleasantville, New York, where he was previously the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach from 2014-16.

The Greenies announced they were conducting a national search for Walker’s replacement.

Over two years as the Greenies’ starter, Holtzclaw had an 8-12 record while throwing for 2,467 yards, 18 touchdowns and 22 interceptions while completing 52% of his passes. He led Christ School to two wins over rival Asheville School.

Holtzclaw becomes the second top quarterback prospect to transfer out of Western North Carolina this year. Ely Hamrick, a Virginia commit, transferred from Reynolds to Crest in the wake of Tropical Storm Helene.

Holtzclaw will look to replace Julian Lewis at quarterback. Lewis was the No. 9 quarterback nationally in the Class of 2025 and enrolled at Colorado in December to play for coach Deion Sanders. He led the Trojans to the Georgia 6A championship game while passing for 3,798 yards and 48 touchdowns on 75.6% completion.
