OXFORD — Ole Miss athletics is behind its most of its SEC counterparts in revenue.
Ole Miss athletic director Keith Carter is making moves to ensure the Rebels stay at the forefront of the college sports landscape.
In a press release sent Friday, the university shared a plan to navigate increasing athletics costs. Pending the approval of the House vs. NCAA settlement, Ole Miss is preparing to share approximately $20 million of revenue with athletes. That is set to begin in the 2025-26 academic year.
Ole Miss also cited NCAA financial reports for fiscal year 2023 that indicated Ole Miss ranks No. 13 in the SEC in revenue, and that Ole Miss is $47.7 million below the conference average.
“Ultimately, in order to maintain the level of talent that our teams have achieved, we must increase our department’s revenue,” Carter said in a press release.
Here are three measures Ole Miss athletics is taking to boost revenue:
A tailgating tent fee for vendors in The Grove
There has been no change to the process of getting a tailgate setup in The Grove.

Ole Miss announced companies that set up spots for fans in The Grove will now pay a per-game fee for each 10×10 tent it places. The fee is $150 per 10×10 tent for a single game. The fee goes down to $100 for vendors that operate for the entire season.
The fee will be paid directly to Ole Miss athletics.
Fans can still set up their own tents for free. The setup process will begin on Fridays. Registered student organizations are still granted access to The Grove free of charge prior to the land grab.
Carter is hopeful the additional fee will not be passed down from vendors to fans.
