Florida football’s recruiting class remains among top 10 in ESPN’s latest 2025 rankings

This year’s official national signing day for college football’s 2025 recruiting class lands on Wednesday, Feb. 5.

The day was traditionally the first and only day of the signing period for high school seniors, until 2017 when the 24-hour bonanza was extended to over a month. It was also when the early signing period in December — the beginning of which has become the main focus in recent years — was established.

Ahead of the start of the traditional signing period, ESPN recruiting analyst Craig Haubert ranked his top 75 schools in the current cycle, with the Florida Gators remaining at No. 10 — the same spot they were in his last update. The Orange and Blue have 13 recruits among the ESPN 300, with wide receiver Vernell Brown III checking in as the top offensive recruit and linebacker Ty Jackson listed as the top defensive recruit.

ESPN’s assessment of Florida’s 2025 class

“While the 2024 season presented challenges, a strong finish by the Gators had Billy Napier closing well in recruiting as well. Jalen Wiggins was a key in-state keep, pulling him out of rival Florida State’s backyard. He is an aggressive DL with excellent length and good initial quickness and range,” he begins. “He has shown he can be tough to handle, recording 16 sacks as a junior and another 14 as a senior with nearly 50 TFLs over two seasons. LB Ty Jackson was headed out of state, but the Gators were able to persuade him to stay near home. He gives them an explosive player who can aggressively close on ball carriers.

“On offense, Waltez Clark is a smooth runner with the speed to generate explosive plays when he gets in the open field. Another addition to the backfield is Byron Louis, whom they flipped from in-state rival Florida State,” Haubert continues. “Louis is a runner with nice size (6 feet, 205) and deceptive speed, having been…
