Dunnellon football ushers in a new era with the hire of former Tiger JB Bynum as head coach. Bynum takes over the team after heading the offense as a co-offensive coordinator.
The Tigers continue their tradition of hiring former players to nurture the next generation of Dunnellon student-athletes with their fourth homegrown talent to lead the program.
“Tommy, Price, Beasley, all of those guys who have been coaching have played the groundwork for what this program is,” Bynum said. “Dunnellon is a big culture thing, and everyone in the country knows it.”
The tight-knit landscape of the city of Dunnellon gives the program a unique cultural perspective. Bynum hopes that adds to his ability to retain players in the era of transferring.
Bynum becomes the seventh head coach to spearhead Dunnellon football in the 135 years since the school opened. The newly minted head coach turned down opportunities in Georgia to take this position and complete a coaching goal he set years ago, which was to become his alma mater’s head coach.
“I am excited to watch Coach Bynum and the great job he will do,” former Dunnellon head coach Tommy Sutton said. “Coach Bynum has worked on staff at Dunnellon for two different stints and has done a great job. He also has played at Dunnellon and understands what makes the Dunnellon football program successful. I can’t wait to watch him put his philosophies into the program as the head coach and the great things he and the program will accomplish.”
Bynum is the football program’s first black head coach. He brings 15 seasons of experience to the sideline, and eight of those include as a coordinator or head coach. Bynum also heads the flag football team, with another coach taking a bigger role as spring football begins.
Dunnellon is slated to play North Marion, Vanguard, and West Port in 2025….
