UNC football lands first commitment in 2027 class

Bill Belichick and the North Carolina Tar Heels’ football program have created a West Coast pipeline in recruiting since he took the job in late 2024. And on Saturday, they landed another recruit from out West.

Class of 2027 athlete Skylar Robinson pledged his verbal commitment to North Carolina on Saturday, becoming the first player in the 2027 class to do so. Robinson is the brother of former Washington receiver Jason Robinson who transferred to North Carolina in 2025.

The 5-foot-10, 160-pound Robinson spoke on his commitment to UNC, saying that it felt like home to him after visiting when his brother was in his new recruitment. Here is what he told 247Sports about his decision:

“The UNC coaching staff along with Michael Lombardi

(General Manager) have been really hands on with recruiting me,” Robinson said. “I visited when Jason was out there and it felt like home for me too.

“I see them building something really special over there and for them to want to bring me in to be a part of that is an honor. I’m going to be coached by one of the greatest coaches of all time and playing along side my big brother is a dream come true for me.”

Robinson had 12 offers in his recruitment, including from Arizona State, Cal, Louisville and Syracuse.

While the Tar Heels have earned some big commitments in the 2026 class, they are off to a good start in 2027 now and continue to expand that recruiting pipeline.
