Dakota Wesleyan football signs 24 prospects in 2025 recruiting class

Feb. 5—MITCHELL — The Dakota Wesleyan University football team announced its first wave of its 2025 recruiting class on Wednesday, signing 24 prospects on National Signing Day.

“We have a pretty good group so far that have decided (DWU) is a place they want to be,” Tigers head coach Alex Kretzschmar said. “Our coaching staff put a lot of time into getting the guys that truly fit our program, having high character, good attitudes and ultimately, being good football players. We’re excited about the class we’re putting together.”

Six players are joining the team from South Dakota, including all-state wide receiver Dominic Ghost Bear and defensive lineman Delbert Peters Jr., who helped Pine Ridge to the 9A All-Nations Conference championship. Payton Chasing Hawk was a 9B all-state honorable mention wide receiver for Hitchcock-Tulare.

Defensive lineman Mason Schaefer of Parker and linebacker Carson Reitz of Estelline/Hendricks are also part of a defense-heavy class, with 16 players in the class listed at defensive positions, including seven defensive linemen, seven defensive backs and two linebackers.

Breaking the class down by state, DWU added four players from Nebraska, three players from Iowa, two players each from Idaho and Colorado, and one player from North Dakota, Wyoming, Kansas, Texas, Florida and Hawaii.

Last season, DWU finished with a 4-7 record and were 4-6 in Great Plains Athletic Conference play. The 2025 season will begin on Saturday, Aug. 30 when the Tigers host Dakota State University at Joe Quintal Field.
