Gators sign CB Onis Konanbanny on national signing day

Heathwood Hall Episcopal School cornerback Onit Konanbanny made things official on Wednesday, national signing day, by putting pen to paper on the financial aid agreement and revenue share contract that replaced the national letter of intent in college recruiting.

Konanbanny flipped his commitment from Tennessee on Tuesday following a strong pursuit from Florida over the winter. An official visit to the Ole Miss game sparked Konanbanny’s interest in Florida, and he decided to push his signing from December to February. Everything pointed in favor of the Orange and Blue, and now he’s officially a Gator.

A three-star recruit by 247Sports and On3’s measure, Billy Napier and the Florida recruiting staff believe they’ve landed a gem in the class that’s being undervalued by recruiting services in Konanbanny. 247Sports gave him a fourth star on its composite ranking because it factors in ESPN’s and Rivals’ evaluations, both of which list Konanbanny as a four-star talent.

“I think Onis is a very underrated player, in my opinion,” Florida coach Billy Napier said in his Wednesday press conference. “I mean, I see some of these rankings. I watched that tape again yesterday just to make sure I was seeing it right. I mean 6-foot and a quarter, 185 pounds and physical. Two-way player, a guy who plays offense and defense. He’s physical. The guy who can kick a 50-yard field goal and the guy’s an elite athlete.”

Konanbanny was the only recruit to sign with Florida on national signing day, bringing the class total to 26 overall. He joins five-star cornerback Ben Hanks III and four-star safeties Hylton Stubbs and Lagonza Hayward. The Gators rank seventh overall on the 247Sports team rankings when only looking at high school signees.
