Luke Dunham commits to Texas

Just hours before the Super Bowl the Texas Longhorns added to their QB room. Less than two days after extending an offer to Luke Dunham to be a preferred walk on they landed a commitment from the Texas native. Following an impressive high school career, Dunham will now look to make his mark in Austin.

Dunham, a two-year starter at McCallum, was named the Texas District 5A-12 first-team quarterback in 2024. He torched defenses with 2,635 passing yards and 28 touchdowns. The talented quarterback was also a threat on the ground, rushing for almost 700 yards. Due to his play, Dunham drew plenty of interest on the recruiting trail.

As Dunham prepares for his college career, he is joining a quarterback room full of talent. He will battle Arch Manning, Trey Owens, KJ Lacey, and fellow walk-on Joe Tatum for playing time. Arch Manning is expected to be the starter, but head coach Steve Sarkisian has not been afraid to use two quarterbacks.

While the Longhorns had an advantage due to Dunham’s local ties, they still had to beat out a few programs. Appalachian State, Arkansas State, Houston, Incarnate Word, SFA, SMU, TCU, Texas State, and Texas Tech were some schools that showed interest. However, a chance to play for the Longhorns was too good of an opportunity for Dunham to pass up.

When Dunham arrives on campus for the 2025 season, his focus will be on carving out a role as the Longhorns look to end their title drought. Regardless of what the future holds, he will get a chance to fulfill a lifelong dream and play at the same school where his parents met.
