It turns out the Alabama-to-Alabama connection works in the NFL, too.
In what was seemingly the game-sealing touchdown for the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl 59, former Crimson Tide quarterback Jalen Hurts connected with former Alabama teammate DeVonta Smith for a 46-yard score to push the Eagles’ lead to 34-0 in the third quarter.
The touchdown also made NFL and Alabama history. Smith became the first player drafted from Alabama to score a touchdown in a Super Bowl.

Hurts, who attended Alabama for the first three years of his collegiate career, transferred to Oklahoma and, after one season in Norman, was drafted by the Eagles in the 2020 NFL draft.

Smith hauled in Hurts’ third touchdown of the game (second passing touchdown) to push the lead to 34-0. Smith is the first player drafted from Alabama to score a touchdown and the first receiver from Alabama to score.
Smith and the Eagles lost to Kansas City 38-35 in Super 57 in 2023. If the Eagles hold on, Smith will become just the fourth player to win a Heisman Trophy, a college football national championship and the Super Bowl. He would join Tony Dorsett (Pitt), Marcus Allen (USC) and Charles Woodson (Michigan).
