On Monday, the PNJ released a list of 16 area Florida High School Athletic Association flag football players to watch for during the 2025 season.
You’ll notice we didn’t rank them. That’s where flag football fans come in. The PNJ sports staff has narrowed down the list. Now, who do you think will be the Pensacola-area Flag Football Player of the Year at the end of the season? These athletes have been selected by the PNJ Sports Staff, and there is no guarantee of earning the award at the end of the season. Note: Candidates on the poll are listed in alphabetical order by school.

Kamryn Hughes, Booker T. Washington: Kamryn Hughes made an impression as a freshman for the Wildcats, and is now part of a strong core of young players for the team. Entering her sophomore season, Hughes is coming off a year where she was all over the field as an athlete, seeing time at cornerback, rusher, wide receiver and quarterback for Booker T. Washington. She threw three touchdown passes, caught two touchdowns, had 22 sacks and three interceptions, one of which was returned for a touchdown.
Da’Rieon Gilbert, Booker T. Washington: One of just two returning seniors for the Wildcats this year, and the team’s lone starting junior from a year ago, Da’Rieon Gilbert was strong as both a slot receiver and safety for Booker T. Washington. Gilbert posted 520 yards receiving for four touchdowns on 40 catches. She also hauled in an incredible seven interceptions, two of which were returned for touchdowns in 2024. She was an All-Area team selection last year at defensive back.
