Auburn landed the nation’s No. 2 wide receiver from the 2024 recruiting cycle in Cam Coleman, who was projected to immediately impact the Tigers’ offense.
However, due to inconsistent quarterback play and offensive game planning, Coleman did not have as strong of a season as fellow top-five receivers Jeremiah Smith from Ohio State and Ryan Williams from Alabama. He ended the 2024 season as the team’s second-leading receiver with 598 yards on 37 catches with eight touchdowns.
However, Ari Wasserman of On3 believes that Coleman can make great strides toward becoming a household name in 2025. Wasserman expects Coleman to benefit greatly from Auburn’s revamped quarterback room, which led him to include him on his list of 10 college football players with breakout potential.
Last year was a huge year for true freshmen wide receivers like Alabama’s Ryan Williams and Ohio State’s Jeremiah Smith. Coleman, who also was a five-star prospect in the 2024 recruiting cycle, has talent and potential that is similar to those two players, but he likely wasn’t able to reach his full potential a year ago because of Auburn’s inconsistent quarterback play. Coleman still had 37 receptions for 598 yards and 8 touchdowns. Auburn has options to greatly improve its quarterback play, which could be the situation Coleman needs to launch himself into full stardom.
Following the 2024 season, Auburn blew up and rebuilt its quarterback room with two experienced transfer quarterbacks, an Alabama high school legend with SEC experience, and a five-star true freshman. Jackson Arnold, Auburn’s projected starting quarterback, was a five-star quarterback in high school and won Gatorade Player of the Year in Texas. He passed for 1,421 yards and 12 touchdowns during his redshirt freshman season at Oklahoma last season and looks to take a step forward…
