Wisconsin adds fast-rising wide receiver to May 29 official visit weekend

Wisconsin scheduled an official visit with class of 2026 wide receiver Zachary Washington earlier this week.

Washington will be on campus during the program’s all-important May 29 – June 1 visit weekend. That puts him in the conversation as one of the program’s high-priority targets in the class. The Badgers, which were the first Big Ten team to offer the 6’2″ wideout back in April 2024, are one of two Big Ten teams with a visit scheduled, along with Michigan State (June 6-8).

247Sports currently ranks the three-star recruit as the No. 515 player in the class of 2026, the No. 79 wide receiver and the No. 12 recruit from his home state of Illinois. His offer sheet has exploded since Wisconsin joined the list last April. It now includes Illinois, Indiana, Kansas State, Louisville, Miami, Minnesota, Michigan State, Missouri, Nebraska, Ole Miss, Purdue, Syracuse and West Virginia.

On3’s recruiting prediction machine lists the Badgers as the early favorite to land Washington’s commitment at 47.6%. They are followed by Miami (OH) (28.2%) and Ole Miss (12.7%).

Wisconsin has yet to add a second commitment to its class of 2026 after three-star quarterback Jarin Mock decommitted. The program is looking for a third consecutive top-25 finish in 247Sports’ national rankings. While Washington has yet to add a fourth star, he’s a recruit that Wisconsin has prioritized since the class’ early days.

There are a few variables to monitor in Wisconsin’s recruitment of Washington and other top receivers. The program is shifting its offense under new coordinator Jeff Grimes back to a pro-style attack. That should change the role, and therefore the production, of those in the wide receiver room. While the position struggled to produce top-end numbers over the last two seasons, that is mostly due to Wisconsin’s inconsistent quarterback play….
