The Oregon Ducks have officially made a coaching hire and replaced former wide receiver coach Junior Adams, who departed to take over as the WR coach for the Dallas Cowboys earlier this month.
According to CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz, the Ducks have hired former Syracuse Orange wide receivers coach Ross Douglas, who is considered a rising star in the coaching industry. Douglas has coached at both the college and NFL levels, spending time with the New England Patriots before taking over with Syracuse in 2024.
Douglas helped the Orange produce the No. 1 passing offense in the nation, with QB Kyle McCord, WR Jackson Meeks, and WR Trebor Pena leading the way.
Before his time at Syracuse. Douglas served as a defensive quality control coach with New England, before moving to the offensive side of the ball as an assistant WR coach, and then the leading WR coach in 2023.
This hire was a big one for Lanning, seeing as Adams was seen as one of, if not the best position coach on the staff for Oregon. There was a lot of speculation as to which way the Ducks were going to go with this hire, seeing as they could have just as easily promoted RB coach Ra’Shaad Samples from RB coach to WR coach and chosen to hire a new running backs coach to replace him.
In the end, Lanning went out and got a rising star at the position, and someone who will likely make his way up the coaching ladder in short order as well.
