Former Penn State QB Matt McGloin reuniting with Bill O’Brien

Former Penn State quarterback Matt McGloin is about to be reunited with former Nittany Lions head coach Bill O’Brien. According to a report from Pete Thamel of ESPN, via social media, McGlin is going to join the football staff at Boston College, which is currently led by O’Brien.

Thamel reports McGloin will take on the role of an offensive analyst for the Eagles, which means he will help break down film and prepare notes for the offensive game plan but will not have the responsibility of any direct coaching of players.

McGloin is Penn State’s fifth-leading all-time passer with 6,390 career passing yards. He was at the helm of the offense at the end of the Joe Paterno era, the brief transition led by interim head coach Tom Bradley, and for the start of O’Brien’s brief stint in Happy Valley to hand the torch off to Christian Hackenberg. McGloin spent some time in the NFL and in the reinvented XFL and as a football analyst and sideline reporter for TV broadcasts on the Big Ten Network in more recent years.

McGloin and O’Brien spent just one season together in State College but it was an important one during a challenging time for the program. Now, years later, the two are back together again.

In related former Penn State quarterback news, McGloin may not be the only one adding a staff job to his profile. Trace McSorley could potentially be joining the Penn State staff. Athletics director Par Kraft teased such a position during an appearance at THON over the weekend.
