2026 four-star IOL Bear McWhorter commits to Michigan football over Alabama

It’s been a long time since Michigan football got a commitment in the 2026 class. The last pledge was four-star quarterback Brady Hart, who since reclassified to 2025 before flipping and signing with Texas A&M. However, Friday saw the Wolverines add another to the class for the first time since last summer.

2026 Cartersville (Ga.) Cass four-star interior offensive lineman Bear McWhorter was long thought to be an Alabama lean, even getting a 247Sports Crystal Ball for the Crimson Tide. However, the momentum shifted on a dime and suddenly, all signs pointed to him becoming a Wolverine.

On Friday afternoon, that momentum became a reality. On3’s Hayes Fawcett made the announcement that McWhorter had indeed committed to the maize and blue over Alabama, Florida, Clemson, and others.

McWhorter joins four-star cornerback Brody Jennings and three-star wide receiver in the 2026 recruiting class. He’s rated highest by ESPN, which has him at No. 175 overall with a four-star ranking. He’s a three-star on 247Sports and On3, while the 247Sports Composite has him as a four-star at No. 385 overall.
