LAWRENCE — It’s no secret Kansas football’s 2024 season didn’t unfold as planned.
The Jayhawks struggled out of the gate in both non-conference and Big 12 Conference play. If not for a late run, they wouldn’t have even come close to vying for bowl eligibility. When the fall ended, Kansas coach Lance Leipold and company owned a 5-7 overall record with a 4-5 mark in league play.
But despite the ways Kansas fell short last season, some of its players still set themselves up well for chances at professional careers in the NFL. That proved to be true on both sides of the ball. And a handful of them — running back Devin Neal, offensive lineman Logan Brown and defensive backs Cobee Bryant and Mello Dotson — were listed on nfl.com earlier this month as players invited to participate in this year’s NFL combine.
As the combine unfolds this week in Indianapolis, and those players have chances to impress NFL organizations, here’s a little more insight on what helped those four Jayhawks reach this point:

Devin Neal
Neal wrapped up his college career with the Jayhawks as one of the program’s all-time greats at running back, and one of the faces of the program’s rebuild under Leipold. This past season, he collected 1,266 yards rushing and 16 rushing scores, in addition to 254 receiving yards and a receiving score.
There’s a level of versatility he possesses, and as long as he can impress with his speed he’s going to be someone who can rise on various organizations’ draft boards.
Logan Brown
Brown didn’t start his college career with the Jayhawks, but after transferring in from Wisconsin the offensive lineman proved to be a valuable addition to the program. That culminated in a starting role during the 2024…
