Mark Dantonio named to College Football Playoff Selection Committee

EAST LANSING — Mark Dantonio, Michigan State’s former longtime football coach, has been named to the College Football Playoff Selection Committee.

The College Football Playoff (CFP) Management Committee made the announcement on Tuesday afternoon.

“I am very honored to be selected to the College Football Playoff Committee,” said Dantonio in a press release. “It’s exciting to join an outstanding group of people dedicated to college football and I will look to bring a coach’s perspective to the process. I want to thank the CFP for this opportunity to help and serve the game that has given so much to me throughout my career.”

Dantonio was appointed to a three-year term by the CFP Management Committee, along with Maryland athletic director Damon Evans, Middle Tennessee State athletic director Chris Massaro, former Ole Miss All-American and NFL player Wesley Walls and former sportswriter Ivan Maisel.

Baylor athletic director Mack Rhoades will take over as the selection committee chair from Michigan AD Warde Manuel, who served as chair last season.

After 13 seasons as head coach of the MSU football program, Dantonio announced his retirement on Feb. 4, 2020. He finished his career with a record of 114-57 (.667) in East Lansing and 132-74 (.641) in 16 seasons overall (2004-19).
