Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore explains how he flipped Bryce Underwood from LSU

Just about no one outside of Ann Arbor thought that the Michigan football media was serious in Oct. 2024 when there started to be reports that Michigan football was in a good position to flip five-star quarterback Bryce Underwood from LSU. This week, Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore appeared on The Daily Wire’s Crain & Co. show — where Underwood had appeared last summer saying that he wouldn’t flip from LSU — and was asked about what happened and how he managed to convince Underwood to stay home.

“It was a long process,” Moore said. “We’ve known Bryce for a very long time. I’ve known him for a long time. He’s, first of all, an outstanding young man. We already had one, but we rebuilt it when I became the head coach. And it was a long process. So we’ve been recruiting him since he’s been committed to LSU. And as we know, like in recruiting, that always happens.”

Moore elaborated, noting that the relationship and communication played a massive part. Of course, the Wolverines also went all-in via NIL, but even so, having relationships with players and their families was crucial to convincing the elite quarterback to wear maize and blue.

“If you’re not talking to your players, somebody else is, right? So you always have to be able to recruit at a high level with communication,”…
